Aftercare Essentials

Aftercare is crucial for ensuring your new tattoo heals properly and looks its best. The following information covers the essentials in tattoo aftercare and our Frequently Asked Questions.

Keep Your Tattoo Covered

After getting a tattoo, it's essential to keep the initial bandage on for at least three hours, or longer if using specialized coverings like Second Skin, which can stay on for up to four days. When removing the bandage, ensure your hands are clean and avoid rewrapping the tattoo unless instructed by your artist. Proceed with washing and moisturizing the area to support the healing process.

Wash Your Tattoo

After removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, antibacterial soap, then pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid scrubbing, using hot or cold water, or drying with a washcloth, as these can irritate the skin or introduce bacteria. Continue to wash the area every few hours, keeping the tattoo hydrated with soothing gel to support healing. It's normal to see some ink and fluid oozing during this time.

Moisturize Your Tattoo

After cleaning your tattoo, applying a moisturizer is essential to prevent it from drying out, cracking, or bleeding. Use a moisture-sealing product, like Cocoa Butter, two to three times daily, but avoid over-moisturizing as it can hinder healing. Steer clear of products with petroleum jelly, perfumes, or harsh chemicals. Let your tattoo breathe—don’t re-bandage unless necessary for protection.

  • What should I do to prepare for my tattoo appointment?
To prepare for your tattoo appointment, ensure you are well-rested and hydrated. Eat a healthy meal before coming in, as this will help keep your blood sugar levels stable. Avoid alcohol and blood thinners like aspirin at least 24 hours before your session. Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the area being tattooed. If you have any reference images or ideas, bring them along.
  • How much does a tattoo cost?
Tattoo costs vary depending on the size, complexity, and placement of the design, as well as the artist's experience. For an accurate quote, we recommend a consultation with one of our artists.
  • Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Pain is subjective and varies from person to person, as well as depending on the placement of the tattoo. Most people describe the sensation as uncomfortable but bearable. Our artists are experienced in making the process as comfortable as possible and will guide you through breathing techniques to manage the discomfort.
  • What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance. A deposit may be required to book an appointment, and failure to give sufficient notice could result in the loss of your deposit. We understand that things come up, so please communicate with us as soon as possible.
